Dave Milhollan - Director

David Milhollan grew up in a very musical home. His mother plays the flute as well as the piano and his father was a pianist who played with a combo after his retirement from the University of Maryland. Because of his parent’s love of music, many days were filled with duets being played by his parents on the piano and records of a variety of music types playing on the record player. Dave didn’t play any instruments until college when he took up the guitar. In the 60’s was there anything else? After Dave’s graduation from Lincoln Northeast High School in Lincoln, Nebraska, his family moved to Maryland where Dave’s college years began at the University of Maryland. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from College Park. Before finishing his degree he took a 4-year break and joined the US Navy. Dave served on the USS Constellation as an Aviation Electronic Technician in Vietnam. This was a very proud period in Dave’s life.

After serving in the Navy, Dave returned to Maryland with his wife, Becky and his twin sons, Eric and Brian. Dave joined his father-in-law in his accounting practice. This began Dave’s career as a CPA. Eventually Dave branched out into computers and is now an independent consultant in both computers and accounting.

Barbershopping was first introduced into Dave’s life when his mother-in-law took his sons to a local competition. After the weekend, Eric and Brian’s enthusiasm led Dave to question the hobby. Tom Sterling, who was a colleague of Becky’s at the time, invited Dave to attend a barbershop meeting in Seaford. It only took one visit to hook him. From that day on, barbershopping has been a major part of Dave’s life.

Dave has sung under Jim Bongard, Tom Ewald, June Easton and Al Butler. While being a part of both Seaford and Easton’s choruses, Dave dedicated himself to learning as much as he could about the form of singing that he was finding so exciting. As well as a chorus member, Dave has been a part of two quartets, Chesapeake Connection and, presently, Unforgettable. As the years went on Dave developed a desire to try his arm at directing. He was assistant director to June Eason and Al Butler. Both experiences have provided valuable techniques in directing. Dave intends on continuing his education in barbershop directing. Dave believes if you are enjoying the music you are making, you will be making good music.
